Panasonic has launched a new mid-range interchangeable lens camera today called the Lumix GX9. It’s going to be available for purchase starting next month with a 12-60 non-Leica kit lens. The company is going to sell a body-only model but in markets other than the United States. It packs powerful internals in a compact body and even brings a new monochrome shooting mode.

The 20.3 megapixel Lumix GX9 camera doesn’t have a low-pass filter and the company says that its Venus Engine image processor is quite capable of delivering images that look natural and high-quality. The camera features the company’s 5-axis dual image stabilization complemented by stabilization functionality in Panasonic’s lenses. It’s also capable of shooting 4K video at 24 and 30 frames-per-second.

The new monochrome mode is capable of delivering detailed black and white photos with highlights and shadows being emphasized. Since the Lumix GX9 has been positioned by the company as the perfect street camera, this shooting mode allows the grain effect to be tweaked in the mode to fine-tune the street look.

Panasonic’s new camera has a 3 inch LCD touchscreen display that can tilt upwards 80 degrees and down to 45 degrees in order to allow easy shooting at a high and low angle. It also gets support for Bluetooth Low Energy to maintain a constant connection with a mobile device for sharing images immediately.

The Panasonic Lumix GX9 with its 12-60mm kit lens is going to be available for purchase next month for $999.
